Michael Souther has just finished producing the second season of the half-hour multi camera series, The Stanley Dynamic for YTV, as well as the feature length documentary, Being Canadian, directed by Robert Cohen, which premiered at Hot Docs in 2015.
Michael was the producer of four successful seasons of Call Me Fitz, a half-hour comedy series for HBO Canada (The Movie Network and Movie Central) starring Jason Priestley, which won Best Comedy Television Series at the Directors Guild of Canada Awards. The show has won multiple other awards, including Best Comedy at the 2014 and 2015 Canadian Screen Awards, and Best Comedy Actor for Jason Priestley at the 2011 Monte Carlo TV Festival.
Finn on the Fly (2008), Souther’s last feature, won the Audience Choice Award for Best Feature Film at the 2009 Sprockets Toronto International Film Festival for Children, a Best Independent Feature Film Award at the 2009 KIDS FIRST! Film Festival and sold to Disney in the U.S. and around the world. Souther received a 2006 Genie Nomination for Best Feature Film as a producer on Saint Ralph (2004). The film premiered at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival, won the Grand Prix at the 2005 Paris Film Festival and was distributed theatrically around the world. He created, produced and directed Patti (2002), a television series for The Comedy Network and W Network in Canada. He also wrote and directed the short film Patti Burns (1999), which won a Golden Sheaf at the Yorkton Short Film Festival. In addition, Souther has produced and directed a number of award-winning national television commercials.
